Tired of plucking those chin hairs? Do you feel like you have hard time telling if your boyfriend or husband is related to a gorilla with all of that back and chest hair?? If so, you are not alone! Time to join millions of other people and try out laser hair removal!
What is laser hair removal anyway? Laser hair removal should actually be called laser hair reduction. While it is very effective at reducing the amount of hair in any given area, we will continue to produce new hair follicles for the rest of our lives. A "laser" is actually a light that picks up the pigment of dark hair follicles, travels down the shaft of it and destroys the follicle...if the follicle is in an active growth phase. This treatment does not work on gray, red, or blonde hair. This is the reason why multiple treatments of hair removal are necessary.
Who's the best candidate for this treatment? Skin types 1-3, possible 4. The darker the skin, the more likely the light will be attracted to the skin color and superficial burning is possible. If you have darker skin (types 4 or 5) we would have to do a test patch first to make sure the treatment would be safe for you. Dark hair is easier to remove than lighter hair, and that is because of the attraction of light to pigment. For this reason, you should not have any tanned skin treated. It is important to be honest about the amount of sun or tanning bed exposure you have, including spray tans.
How many treatments are necessary? This all depends on the type of hair, color, skin type, and area of the body. The face is usually 6-8 treatments while the body is 4-6. These treatments should be spaced out every 4-6 weeks on the face and every 8-12 weeks on the body.
So what's the best laser? Well I have used different lasers in the past, but in my quest to find the best equipment, I discovered that Sciton's Forever Bare BBL is the most effective. We have the ability to treat very large areas extremely quickly, and with less pain. Here is a link for a video about the procedure.
What to expect during the treatment...
